Announcement of New Standard CQZ-Clips (Compact QSZ CLIP)
and Anchor Pins (CNCR)
Issue Date: 15-Jun-2023
New CQZ2New CQZ

Alpha has expanded its wide range of off-the-shelf products to meet customer requirements.

Electronic components have become faster and more compact, generating more heat and increasing thermal densities. This requires using heat sinks of greater size and mass. One of the biggest challenges for thermal/mechanical engineers is mechanically mounting heat sinks while minimizing the amount board real estate used by the attachment hardware. Generating sufficient attachment force is critical with regards to mechanical security and performance of thermal interface materials.

Alpha's new CQZ clips (Compact QSZ CLIP) have been designed to address both issues, providing secure and reliable attachment while requiring an absolute minimum of board real estate. The CQZ clips require a 40 % smaller keep-out area than the existing QSZ clips, reducing issues related to PCB routing and conflicts.

New Anchor Pins (CNCR-8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16) are designed exclusively for use with the new CQZ-Clips.

The CNCR anchor pins require a smaller hole in the PCB. 1.50mm versus 1.80mm for the current pins. The anchor pins are installed from the backside of the board.

Using different Anchor pin lengths, customers will be able to target a desired attachment force. Heat sinks are mechanically attached directly to the PCB instead of the device. Shock and vibration loads are transferred to the PCB instead of the package and solder balls.
